Do you have a history of difficult pregnancies and deliveries? If you do, you may be wondering how you can change that. Whether it is a history of breech babies or deliveries not progressing, chiropractic care can help to loosen up your pelvic area to allow the baby room to drop into the pelvis to progress the delivery and aid in labor.
Many women do not know much about how chiropractic care can help in pregnancy, but once they try it, they realize that it can make all the difference. That is what happened with me.
Pregnancy Problems Aided
When I was pregnant with my first child, the doctor said that my pelvis was possibly too small for me to have a normal labor and delivery. He suggested that I contact a chiropractor as he had noticed changes in women who have regular chiropractic care.
I was skeptical, but went anyway. I am so glad that I did. My back pain went away after the first few adjustments and my delivery went smoothly and easily. I know that it was due to the great care that I got from my chiropractor. If you having back pain or want to prepare for delivery, you want to think about getting some chiropractic care.
Why Does Chiropractic Help?
Why did this help? I have read lots of research since then and it is a scientific fact that regular chiropractic care can alleviate the back pain that is associated with being pregnant. Back pain should not be a normal part of pregnancy that you just live with.
Regular adjustments can keep you aligned so that you are able to feel better and can enjoy being pregnant. In addition, it can aid in having a normal delivery and labor. How does it affect labor and delivery?
- Helps to line up the pelvic muscles for easier delivery
- Loosens Muscles to Allow Baby to Move Into Proper Position for Labor
- Helps to Overcome Pregnancy Hormones Effect
Aligns Pelvis and Loosens Muscles
Pregnancy can affect the muscles and the alignment of the pelvis. When you prepare for delivery by being adjusted, these muscles and bones can be loosened, so that the baby is able to drop down into the pelvis and fully engage the labor process.
In addition, the baby will be able to more easily pass through the pelvis during delivery. If the baby is breech or in an unusual position, relaxing the pelvic muscles and bones can help the baby to move into the proper position.
Preparation Can Aid in Delivery
Dr. Elliot Berlin reinforces this idea, “If we do things like opening up the pelvic bones and relax the pelvic musculature and do a little training before the big day, you maximize your chances for that safe, uncomplicated, traditional delivery.” If that is your goal, prepare for the big labor day by getting regular care from back pain specialists. It can make the difference in your pregnancy and in your delivery. Start as soon as possible in your pregnancy to head off any issues.
Overcoming Pregnancy Hormones
Pregnancy hormones cause the muscles and bones, including the vertebrae, to relax. This can cause them to get out of alignment and cause you pain and a difficult labor and delivery.
If the baby is not able to drop down into the pelvis and be fully on the cervix, it is impossible to dilate in a regular fashion. This can cause your labor to stall and it may become necessary to have a C-section. Chiropractic care can prepare the body for labor and delivery to ensure that you are able to go as natural as possible to deliver your precious baby into the world.
I wish that every doctor would recommend chiropractic care for pregnant women or women looking to conceive, but they do not. That is why I try to tell every woman that I know how much of a difference that this can make in their pregnancy.
If you are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant, do all that you can to prepare for it. Chiropractic care on a regular basis can be a way to decrease any pain from your growing baby and help your labor and delivery to go smoother and easier.

I totally benefited from chiropractic care throughout my pregnancy and during delivery! However, especially during the 3rd Trimester my chiropractor (who has since passed away) did a special treatment involving the massaging of pressure points in the inner thigh and he rocked my hips (body facing down). He prepared my pelvis to open completely.
I would love to know what this is called and who in my area can perform this because I had a completely painless birth and I delivered a 9lb 7oz baby naturally without meds and without tearing. I am sold!
