We all want to reach our full potential. We all want to be successful. We all want the fulfillment and social and financial rewards that come with reaching our potential. We all have goals that we are striving towards, and we all truly desire to meet those goals.
If we truly want to reach our goals and potential, does that mean that we are always doing things that are going to help us reach our potential? Not necessarily. Sometimes we let bad habits creep in that will get in the way of us reaching our potential. So what are those bad habits that could destroy our progression? Well, let’s take a look at a few of them.
1) Laziness.
Laziness is the ultimate enemy to progression. If we are lazy, we completely eliminate our chances of reaching our potential. Laziness gets in the way of us being productive… which is what we must be doing if we want to reach our goals.
Don’t let laziness take over your life. Don’t let yourself get in the habit of watching too much TV, taking too many naps, talking on the phone too long, etc. Do make time for relaxing activities; but limit them. Focus on productive, beneficial activities that will help you get closer towards your goals and potential.
2) Working Too Much.
While laziness is the ultimate enemy to progression, there is also potential harm in working too much. If we never take a break from work, our creativity will be slowed, we can lose our perspective, we run the risk of getting burned out, and our relationships with others will suffer.
Don’t be lazy. But on the other side of it, don’t spend your entire time working. Take time away from work to read, spend time with others, set goals, and do other activities you enjoy. All of these things will be rejuvenating and help you to work even better towards your goals and towards reaching your full potential.
3) Getting Distracted.
Being easily distracted is another bad habit that will get in the way of us reaching our full potential. Distractions are a poison to us reaching our potential. If you allow them, they will creep into our lives and take up all of our time. How many times have you gotten distracted from the task at hand because of a funny email, YouTube video, or conversation?
Many times we avoid some of the harder tasks that will truly help us on our path to our goals. Instead, we allow distractions in to fill that time. We find ourselves wondering what we did with our days. Don’t let distractions in. If you need to take a short break every once in awhile, do it. But always stay focused on the task at hand, and the goals you are trying to achieve.
4) Not Keeping Your Word.
To be able to reach our full potential, we will all need the help of others at some time or another. But the street goes both ways! So to be able to receive the help of others, you must be someone that others can trust. Always keep you word. Make sure that others feel that they can trust & depend on you. So when the times comes, they will also make sure that you can trust and depend on them.
5) Complaining.
Complaining is another poison to reaching our potential. Many times it can seem like we have a long road ahead of us on our path to reaching our goals. The task can seem daunting. But if we allow negative thinking and complaining in, it will only make it harder.
Don’t allow yourself to become a negative thinker. Always stay positive. Be grateful for the opportunities you’ve received. Give yourself credit. Remember the progress you’ve made thus far, and always focus on that. As you have a better, more positive attitude and outlook, you will be energized and more excited. And that is the frame of mind you need in order to stay on the path towards reaching your potential.
