5-Minute Workouts for Busy People

April 30, 2012 By Angela

Are you living an incredibly hectic and fast-paced lifestyle? Do you find yourself with little to no time to head to the gym to get some exercise? If your answer is yes to both questions—don’t worry. You’re not alone.

Here are some quick and effective workouts for busy people:

Stretching

Five minutes may seem like a long time to stretch yourself out, but stretching does wonders for your body and you’ll feel incredibly great and refreshed afterwards. Work your way from your head down to your toes. Roll your neck, extend your arms up in the air and stretch your back from side to side and front to back. Stretch out whatever body part you can!

Arms and shoulders

Grab a pair of dumbbells, or just about any objects that can function as a weight. Hold these weights out at shoulder length, and pull your arms straight up over your head. Remember to keep your stomach tight! Repeatedly lift and lower the dumbbells at shoulder level. Do this exercise in several sets for a total of five minutes.

Another exercise you can do for your arms are bicep curls. Use your dumbbells or even two canned goods from your kitchen and do bicep curls as you briskly walk around your house. Get your heart pumping and your muscle groups working while waiting for your coffee to brew.

Take the stairs

Skipping the elevator and taking the stairs is one of the simplest ways to get in some exercise on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter whether you’re going up or down—using the stairs is a very good way to get that heart pumping.

Walk or bike

Do you live within close proximity to your office? If you do, then why not consider walking to work or riding a bicycle? Sure, you might get to the office sweaty, but you can always keep a change of clothes at your desk. Walk or take a bike to work on most days and you’ll find yourself with a considerable amount of savings on transportation expenses, too!

If, however, the distance to your office requires you to bring a car, then why not park further away? Forego parking at your office. Instead, leave your car a few blocks away so you can get in a short brisk walk to and from your office each day.

Jog in place

No time to hit the pavement? You can still get in a few minutes of jogging before stepping in the shower. How? By jogging in place! You may feel ridiculous at first, but there’s nothing silly about increasing your circulation and bringing up your heart rate. If you want to intensify your workout, have your heels reach your buttocks.

Jobs and various obligations can be extremely taxing, and all these demands can definitely take a toll on our minds and bodies if we don’t fit in regular exercises in our busy schedules. Whether you’re in front of the computer the entire day or cooped up in a meeting for hours on end, it’s vital that you improve your lifestyle and find time to squeeze in a little exercise.
