Teeter Hang Ups EP-560 vs. EP-960 Inversion Tables Comparison & Review

June 21, 2013 By Steven Kirchhof

In this video I walk through the differences between the two most popular Teeter Hang Ups inversion tables, the EP-560 and the EP-960.

The most important point in the video is the difference between the foot clamping systems. With the EP-960 you do not have to bend to reach your ankles in order to fasten yourself into the table, and is therefore recommended for people with back pain to the point where this much bending is a problem.

Both of these tables come with several Teeter Hang Ups exclusives, including:

  • 5 Year warranty
  • UL Mark
  • 30 Day Money Back Guarantee
  • 3rd Party Safety Tested

How Does The Teeter Hang Ups EP-560 Inversion Table Stack Up Against the EP-550?

June 1, 2012 By Steven Kirchhof

It seems like we’ve been putting out a lot of Teeter Hang Ups videos and blog posts lately. In this video, I review the features of the new Teeter EP-560 inversion table and also walk through the differences between it and the Teeter EP-550. As of this post, both models are available, and I hope that this helps you decide which is right for you.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Speaker 1 (STEVE): Back pain. If you’re watching this video then you’re probably suffering from back pain. You may have looked at all the different options that you have to address that pain. You may have looked at or even tried injections in your back; pain injections in your back, going to a pain clinic once a week, or once every other week, to get pain injections.

You may have looked at surgical solutions. You might have already had a surgical solution. Really, you just want that back pain to go away. You just want to get your life back.

If you’re watching this video then you’re probably pretty far down the road of looking at an inversion table. When you look at inversion tables around the market it’s pretty simple, or pretty easy, to come to the conclusion that you want a Teeter Hang Ups Inversion Table. Before I get into talking about the two that are right here, a quick little bit about Teeter.

Teeter is the only company that’s been making inversion tables continuously for 30 years. They’re the only company that offers a five year warranty. They are the only company that puts their inversion tables through a 30,000 cycle test to achieve UL, or underwriter laboratory certification. You know, I wouldn’t plug in a toaster in my home that didn’t have the UL mark on it. Lord knows, I wouldn’t hang from my feet from something that didn’t have a UL mark on it. It was tested to extremely high quality levels.

When you go shopping for an inversion solution there are a lot of options out there. There is, of course, the cheaper import brands, and let’s just dismiss those for now anyway, because we are looking at Teeter. We’ve made the decision that Teeter is the preferred solution.

Teeter offers a number of different inversion table models. They’ve been improving them over the last 30 years, and continually introducing new models. Back in 2008 they came out with this table, the EP550; the EP series. A wonderful table; really, really took off. They did quite well with this table.

Earlier this year or actually just about a month ago or so, they came out with the EP560 series. It’s offered as a 560. It’s also offered as a 560 sport. What might be making your decision of how to go a little bit confusing, and we talk to a lot of folks on the phone, that this is exactly the cases, “Hey, what should I buy?” You’ve got the EP550 for $299. You have the EP560 for $299. That’s what it costs at BetterHealthInnovations.com today.

I’m going to do a quick run through of the features on the new table; how that’s changed from the old table. I’m going to call it like I see it. There’s a lot of things that I really like about the EP560. If I were to put one in my home it would be a split decision though, because there are a lot of things that I also like about the EP550. Both currently are being offered for sale. I assume that Teeter is going to phase out the EP550 at some point but right now, the date I’m uploading this video, you have a choice. It’s a choice that fortunately, it will be difficult to make a bad one … a bad decision on this. Both are great tables. Both will give you years and years of service. I have an older Teeter in my home that I’ve used for probably about 10 years. This particular table right here, we’ve had this here in our offices since 2008 and we’ve got people hanging on it all the time; people of different heights, different weights, and different body build. It’s performed very well. Obviously, similar construction with the new EP560 series. This is going to provide years of good service as well.

Let’s quickly hit the new features on this table, on the EP560. A lot of things remain the same. It still has a very smooth rotation. It still has the same tether strap in the back to set your angle of inversion, which I really like. I think that the biggest thing on this table that they’ve changed and they introduce this as formerly available on the EP950 only, is they put in this ergo-embrace system for your feet. This ergo-embrace system is much more like wearing gravity boots in your invert. It’s not quite … and I would say that if you’re going to be doing exercises and that sort of thing on the table, moving around a lot, take a look at gravity boots. Conversion kit. It goes for about $100 if you want to convert the table over, or you could just go with the EP560 sport. These ergo-embrace tables, they will grab your feet from the front, in from the back, as opposed to the EP550, and we’ll turn and take a look at that now. As opposed to the EP550 series, which is going to grab your ankles from the back and grab the top of your foot. You do feel secure in either table. I would say that I, personally, I feel a little bit more secure in the EP560 but it’s certainly like I’m not going feel like I’m going to fall out of it, in the EP550.

Another change to the table. The back has been redesigned to accommodate accessories on the EP560. There are two accessories currently available. They have acupressure nodes, which you can place in the back. We’ll be doing a video on these accessories at some point, or you can just go to BetterHealthInnovations.com and learn all about them.

There’s also a lumbar bridge which puts a nice pressure right in the small of your back, right in the lumbar region. If you’re inverting at 60 degrees it really, really feels nice. It’s a very popular accessory, even though we’ve only had this table out for about a month. They also have some hand holds now that they built in. The hand holds, I guess, they’re good if you want a full on inversion or even partial inversion. You can reach over, grab one, do a little bit of manual stretching, manual twisting of the back.

If you’re looking at the two tables it might just come down to ascetics. The EP560 is in a silver/grey finish, a powder-coat finish. The EP550, they had the frame in a powder-coat black. It really might depend on just what your preference is. We offer a lot of gym equipment in different colors. I think that silver is probably the most popular.

One thing that you’ll notice when you’re looking at the two tables side by side is, for years Teeter had talked about the triple chrome-plated main shaft. The reason it is chrome plated is that chrome is an extremely hard plating and it’s not going to wear out. You’re not going to wind up with any kind of scratches from moving in and out of the back. That’s really only an issue if you have multiple users in the home, where you’re going to be adjusting that frequently. That’s when you have multiple users at different heights. If you’re going to be using that main shaft, or rather adjusting the main shaft on a frequent basis you might want to steer towards the EP550 with the hard chrome triple plated main shaft. They went to a powder-coat in the EP560 series. There is a case to be made that … that might actually look a little bit more pleasing if you have it set up in your living room, for example. You don’t have a big shiny piece of chrome. I think the chrome does go nice with the black frame with the EP550 though.

Other parts, just to know what we’re talking about, our plating and finishing. They did stay on parts that are moving for everybody. They did stay with a hard chrome finish.

There’s a couple of smaller enhancements on this table as well. For example, the back which is a little bit tough to see in the video. The back of the A-frame, you can reach down, there’s a hand-hold there that you can grab if you’re going to the full inversion. Prior to that, you would reach to the sides of the … with the EP550 you would reach to the sides of the table, grab the A-frame to stretch or to come back into a full position.

Again, that was an extremely quick run-down of the EP560 and the EP550. Like I said when we started out, you’re not going to go wrong with either table. If you purchase it through Better Health Innovations, go ahead and use the thing for 90 days, and if you don’t like it, give us a call. You can send it back and get a full refund. There’s no restocking fee within 90 days.

Of course, we mention this in every video. We help you along the way. We have a coaching program; an individual one-on-one coaching program with a member of our staff. I’m a coach for several people, for example. Where you get somebody’s phone number or you get somebody’s email address. We also email out some helpful inversion tips on how to use your inversion table.

If you have any questions about the tables certainly give us a call. Visit our website. We have a lot more information at BetterHealthInnovations.com/Teeter. A lot more information on the site that we could fit into a relatively short video. I wouldn’t really elect the decision between the EP550 or the EP560 slowing down at all. Either way, again, you’re going to be making an excellent choice. Again, it’s really risk free when you’re purchasing from BetterHealthInnovations.com

Again, I encourage you to contact us with any questions you might have.

Everybody, have a great day!

Teeter Hang Ups EP-560 Inversion Table Assembly and Features

May 19, 2012 By Steven Kirchhof

Teeter Hang Ups claims that their new EP-560 inversion table can be assembled in 13 minutes, so I put it to the test. I have assembled other models in the past, but this was my first time with their newest series of tables. The 13 minutes is possible, but only after you’ve taken all the parts out of the box. Teeter does a nice job with protecting their tables during shipment, and there is a considerable amount of unpacking necessary (about 10 minutes).

In the video I assembled using the tools that come with the table. It would go faster using a socket wrench and electric screwdriver.

Watch the video to see if I can assemble the table within the 13 minutes Teeter claims.

What is the most difficult piece of exercise equipment you assembled? Comment below.

[TRANSCRIPT]
Speaker: Hi everyone. Here we are with another Teeter Hang Ups video.

This time, I’d like to walk you through our Assembled Inversion Table. This is the new Teeter Hang Ups EP-560 Inversion Table and we’ll do a full review on this table and probably compare it to the EP-550 side by side.

While I figure on assembling it, I can also point out some of the features of this table. If you want, what I have here, I don’t know how I could see that on video, but there really aren’t that many parts of the Inversion Table. This is not like an elliptical machine or an exercise bike. They are just as hundreds and hundreds it seems of different parts and little fasters that you have to put together.

Assembly with Teeter Hang Ups Inversion Table is really quite simple. I did take it out of the box, because I didn’t think that anybody wanted to sit and watch me take one out of the box. It’s been a while since I assembled an inversion table. I’ve never assembled this model before, but it is very similar to the EP-550.

So I’m working. You know, everything here already came assembled. This A-frame came assembled, most of the back came assembled, and we are just putting on assembled smaller parts. It comes with some of these little tools and wrenches, etc to do it. Probably it would be faster if you had a socket set, ratchet screwdriver, that’s it.

So here the bars are tightened to the sides of the table and these are used to aid when you’re trying to come back from inversion, if necessary. Normally you just have to, you know, you have your hands over your head, to shift your center of gravity. Normally, you just have to take your hands and put them back by your sides, you know, go up to an upright setting.

And what I’m going to do is, I’m going to get these on fairly tight, but I don’t want to spend a whole lot [00:02:00] of time on video boring you guys watching me tighten up bolts.

The instructions that come with the Teeter are quite clear. There’s also a DVD that comes that helps. If you enroll in our coaching program, which is free if you purchase a Teeter Hang Ups Inversion Table from BetterHealthInnovations.com. If you participate in our coaching program, we actually send out the assembly instructions a couple of days before you’re going to receive your table. In that way, you read it out if you like. You can understand better what sort of tools you’re going to need, what we can help you with an area that you’re going to need, that sort of thing. So those were the stretcher [indiscernible] [00:02:58] handles.

Moving on to the next step, we’re now going to assemble the main shaft and the main shaft is basically what holds on to your ankles or on to your feet. So it’s rather important. So the foot rests on the Teeter Hang Ups table, still similar to what they have on the EP-550, again this is an EP-560.

What’s good about this is that it’s a different thickness on each side. So as you flip it, you’re can adjust it for basically how big your feet are. Then I think just about all the screws and fasteners and here when we put it together, it’s [00:04:00] airproofed that you can’t put things in backwards for the most part that I know of. You can’t put in things in backwards, you can’t [indiscernible] [00:04:08] faster in one place that sort of thing.

Say for example, this foot, I don’t think I could put this on upside down if I try and this is just a Phillips screw through a Phillips screwdriver that comes with it for nothing.

So let’s see. This is where you’re going to be resting your feet now. Likely to assemble the part that you’re going to have the back of your feet on. I’m sorry, these two will be the – the cups will go behind your ankles. You see that on video. And actually probably the biggest improvement for this EP-560 is that it comes with these so-called Ergo-Embrace. It’s called an Ergo-Embrace feet.

What the Ergo-Embrace does for you is it clamps around your ankles as opposed to grabbing the tops of your feet. So that’s little bit more comfortable. It’s a lot like wearing a gravity boots as opposed to stay in foot clamps. This goes in with the bolt [00:06:00].

And normally I’d probably be sitting on the floor doing this as opposed to trying to balance through things in my hand. This time I’ll keep my finger right there. I’ll try it out again. It is important that this particular one goes in fairly tight. I’m going to take that all the way down and just the same on time holder.

Okay, that’s where the back of your ankles are going to go. Your feet are resting on here. Legs up where you like, that’s where the front of your feet are going up. Well guys, it’s been a while since I’ve done a lot of these.

Now Teeter Hang Ups essentially claims you could assemble all these in 13 minutes. Let’s see how close I come to that [indiscernible] [00:07:49] [00:08:00]. In the front of the spring load it has a pin, so I’m just attaching the back of the spring here. They give you a nice cable tie in this model, which I don’t think I’ve seen on the previous ones. They give you a nice cable ties so you can just pull it up and through. Normally you just cut that off but I think you just leave that out there. And there’s your [indiscernible] [00:08:44] unit. I’ll lean it up against the frames. The next step is. Make sure we haven’t missed anything. Then this one thing, oh the plug to go down at the bottom here. Actually this plug will normally go on the back you normally leave it off because I’m not going to take the time to cut that off right now, I’ll do that later.

Okay, assembling the back cushion. The lower part of the back cushion. So already some will add on here. Actually go to the last steps here. You need to put on this piece here. They are pretty lightweight material and it’s intentionally so. The old inversion table, this is little bit lighter than an EP-550, I thinks it’s got 10 pounds lighter. And this is just simply three fasteners that are going to [00:10:00] go through. The front of the fastener has a little hex or Allen wrench kind of thing, which is included.

And again, I think usually one would be assembling this while sitting on the floor, at least have a chair available, I think it will be most awkward hanging it right here balancing this stuff. I think that’s it with the fasteners we got. And again, probably you just take your little Phillips – I’m sorry not Phillips, your Allen wrench and your regular wrench to tighten up these fasteners here, but for the sake of time, I we’re not going to do that for this demo. We need to assemble the roller hinges onto the bed. This is pretty simple. Roller hinges [indiscernible] [00:11:38] were inside.

Refer to the manual or some of our coaching materials of what you want to do with the [indiscernible] [00:11:45] in the middle. What I see in the middle is just three holes here. They are [indiscernible] [00:11:55] [00:12:00] chair. Well this usually is going to sit right into that A-frame there and this is really not a heavy piece and I know if you’re suffering from back pain and that’s why you got the thing, probably you don’t want to be lifting a lot of stuff around. It’s really not – this is probably, I don’t know, 15 pounds or so. I might be grossly over or underestimating that. This we’re just going to drop right in. There’s a little safety retention feature here you have to pull back. And as you can see, we’re all but done at this point.

We are back to make sure I didn’t miss anything critical. They are looking good, the main shaft. And one difference with the 560 over the 550, this is no longer chrome. In fact, I kind of like the chrome one. If you have to sit here literally like the gray, you know, the gray and the black are a little bit better. The advantage in the chrome is that chrome is never really going to wear.

Anyhow we have a tether strap on the back and I absolutely love the way that Teeter has done this over the years. They haven’t changed it. You know, it’s a control, your handle version, a very simple tether strap as opposed to a mechanism that might be on the sides of our similar competitors. But there you have it. I think that I might have made it, the 13-minute mark. I wasn’t really keeping track as I went. I think it’s pretty close we got this thing assembled and grant that I didn’t have everything off out of the box [00:14:00] for us. I would say it probably took a good 15 minutes to get everything out of the box.

So you have a Teeter EP-560 Inversion Table and the next video, if you want to subscribe through our channel so you won’t miss it, the next video will be a comparison of this table, the [indiscernible] [00:14:10] one, this table versus the Teeter EP-550. Then again, visit us at BetterHealthInnovations.com/Teeter to see the complete wide range of Teeter Inversion tables and if you have any questions at all, you can email us or even if you want you can give me a phone call personally.

Have a great day everybody.

Teeter Hang Ups EP-560 Inversion Table Introduction and Quick Review

May 4, 2012 By Steven Kirchhof

Early this week Teeter Hang Ups released their new EP-560 and EP-560 Sport inversion tables. For those who follow this sort of thing, it’s pretty exciting news since it’s been a few years since Teeter has had a major redesign. I first saw this table at the 2011 fitness equipment trade show in Vegas, and have been eagerly awaiting it’s release. Here, I give you a quick review of the table in case you are considering it. I will follow up with a more complete review shortly. Also, the video below is from Teeter, we will have our own which goes into more detail and will be less of a commercial.

Features of the Teeter EP-560 Inversion TableAs you may already know, Teeter Hang Ups has been around for 30 years, longer than any other inversion table manufacturer. In fact, they are the only manufacturer that only manufacturers inversion tables. They are widely recognized as the leader in inversion therapy and innovation. Looking at their track record, warranties, UL certified tables, etc, it would be easy to conclude that purchasing a different brand would be almost foolish (you are suspended upside down on the thing, you know).

Teeter talks at great length about the ComforTrak Bed. They highlight the comfort and durability of this new design. I see the new bed as being the next design iteration of the Flex Technology bed found on the EP-550, but is not a step-change like when the Flex Technology bed was introduced. That said, the new bed is plenty comfortable, and I particularly like the “tracks” that will accommodate accessories (more on that later). Also, the three hand grips near the top of the table are very nice for aiding in stretching.

The biggest change, and possibly the most compelling reason to consider purchasing a Teeter Hang Ups EP-560 over an EP-550 are the foot clamps. The old design supports the feet from the back of the feet (heal and Achilles tendon area) and the top of the feet. This was a proven design, and is still comfortable. The new EP-560 design changes this by incorporating the “Ergo-Embrace” supports that clamp around your ankles kind of like Gravity Boots. These were formerly found only on the more expensive EP-950 inversion table. Both are secure and comfortable, so it’s up to you whether you want to be suspended by your feet (get the EP-550 if that’s the case) or suspended by your ankles (go with the EP-560).

Features of the Teeter EP-560 Inversion TableTwo new accessories have been introduced that work with the EP-560 new bed design: Acupressure Nodes and a Lumbar Bridge. I think that the image shows the possible benefit from these accessories pretty well. I do wish that Teeter had simply made these standard rather than making them an add-on. For the Lumber Bridge, if a lumbar cushion or pad makes you feel more comfortable then you should consider it. Certainly if your car has seats with lumbar support that you keep on a high setting, then get the lumbar bridge. The benefit of Acupressure Nodes is a little less obvious to most people. Use of these nodes is a bit like trigger point therapy, but they won’t go deep enough into the muscle to really be trigger point therapy.

Missing from the new table is a chrome plated main shaft. This is an obvious cost reduction, but Teeter had always touted the chrome plated main shaft with their previous tables. Really, it may not be such a big deal. The advantage of the chrome plating is that the finish will not wear off as the shaft is adjusted for different user heights (chrome is an extremely hard finish). If only one person will be using the table (or more than one persons of similar height), then the shaft will never be adjusted and wear is not a concern. To some, the non-chrome shaft may look a bit nicer.

Best Inversion Table 2017: Reviews & Ratings

March 15, 2017 By Steven Kirchhof

Finding the Best Inversion Table

best inversion tableWith many options and brands available in 2017, it can be very difficult to find the best inversion table.  Prices vary as do the features and quality.  This is a long term investment in treating your back pain, so you need to make a well informed decision.  Selecting your inversion table depends on your specific needs and budget.

With any inversion table, you are turning yourself upside down to hang from your feet.  While you do not need anything complicated, there are several features that will make your inversion experience more convenient and comfortable.  The better the inversion experience, the more likely you will be to use the table on a regular basis.

Below we review the top inversion tables on the market today along with some that would not be the best choice. We have hands-on experience with most of these tables.

Quick Summary

We reviewed more than ten tables below. Here is a quick rundown on our best inversion table evaluation along with links to jump directly to our top picks:

  • Best Inversion Table: Teeter EP-560 (click to jump to it below)
  • If you have back pain where you cannot reach your ankles: Teeter EP-960 (click to jump to it below)
  • If you want to save a few dollars for a less refined table: Ironman Gravity 4000 (click to jump to it below)

How we rated

We based this evaluation on our own experience with inversion tables.  As users of inversion, and former retailers of back pain products, we have assembled dozens of tables, used them, and listened to customer feedback.  The criteria for our top inversion tables are:

  • Construction – You will be hanging upside down, supported by your ankles.  The quality of construction is critical for a safe inversion experience.  Along with our own experience, our scoring includes third party certifications and testing. We have noted third party certifications (or lack of) for all the inversion tables reviewed below.  UL 1647 is the most common standard for inversion tables and requires testing such as cycling, mechanical strength, and others to meet the standard.
  • Ease of Use – If an inversion table is difficult to use, you will not use it.  Ease of fastening yourself in and making adjustments dictates whether a person will use a table on a regular basis.
  • Comfort –  Again, if a table is uncomfortable, you will not use it.  We considered ankle/foot comfort and back comfort (for partial inversion).
  • Features – There are not that many “features” needed to hang inverted.  However, certain features improve the experience.  The best inversion table for you will have what is needed for your situation.
  • Size & Weight – This criteria is difficult to assess as it can contradict with the quality of construction.  A table with more durable construction may weigh more.  That said, the size and weight of a table is important if you will be taking it out for use or if you have a small area to set up.
  • Warranty – Even the most well made products can have issues.  How well a company stands behind their product is a statement of it’s quality. A strong warranty gives you the piece of mind that your are covered if something does go wrong.
  • Price - No one has an unlimited budget.  Balance price with the other criteria to find the best value in an inversion table.

Teeter Hang Ups has been producing inversion tables for more than 30 years, and their experience shows in the EP series. The balance of quality and price makes the Teeter EP-560 our best inversion table of 2017. We are very familiar with this table and have done several articles and videos on it. Comfort, build quality, and ease of use put this model on top of our list.

One of the best features of the EP-560 is the way it grips your ankles. Rather than a bar across your feet, as with other models, your ankles are secured by foam lined “ankle cups” from the front and back. The experience is very much like using gravity boots. This table can take the Teeter accessories, such as the lumbar bridge and accupressure nodes. These accessories can be ordered with the table (EP-560 Limited Edition) or ordered later.

When we recommend Teeter products, we have confidence from their 3rd party certifications. This model (and the others in the EP series) is UL listed.  Also, the FDA recently “cleared” Teeter inversion tables.  To our knowledge, Teeter is the only manufacturer that goes to the expense of obtaining these certifications through independent testing and analysis.

Teeter has the best inversion table warranty of those reviewed here. Teeter offers a 5 year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee. If you do not like your table, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund. Note that you will have to pay the return shipping.

Teeter claims that you can assemble this table in 13 minutes. We were able to do that, but starting out we had everything unpacked and tools laid out. There is nothing complicated, but for a novice, plan on one hour for assembly. Fortunately, all the major pieces are pre-assembled by the factory.

Size and weight are what you would expect from a quality table. At 58 pounds, the EP-560 is in the middle of those reviewed here for weight.  If you want to put it away while not in use, it folds and can be stowed in a closet or against a wall.

Pros

  • UL listed and FDA approved
  • Comfortable ankle restraints
  • Comfortable flex back
  • 5 year warranty
  • 30 day money back
  • High quality
  • Support materials included

Cons

  • Must reach down to ankles to fasten into the table

The Teeter EP-960 would have received the best inversion table designation, but it has a feature for certain users that increases the price. We did an entire video on this, if you have back pain to the point where you cannot reach your ankles, then this is the table to get. The EP-960 has a lever that is used to secure your ankles. When you get into the table, you only have to reach the lever slightly below your knees to fasten into the table. Although more expensive, we like the ankle system. To some, it feels more secure than the standard Teeter Hang Ups pin system used in the EP-560 and other tables. The feature does add weight. This table weighs 65 pounds.

The EP-960 comes with all the features of the EP-560. The same accessories are compatible with the table, and Teeter offers a limited addition if you wish to purchase them with the table. The ankle clamping system comes pre-assembled, so assembly is the same. Just like the EP-560, adjustment is easy and quick if you have people of different heights using the table. A couple years ago we did a video on adjustment where we demonstrated switching the table from a 6’7″ person to a 5’5″ person in a few seconds.

Pros

  • UL listed and FDA approved
  • Comfortable ankle restraints with easy locking lever
  • Comfortable flex back
  • 5 year warranty
  • 30 day money back
  • High quality
  • Support materials included

Cons

  • Price is higher than most tables
  • Additional weight for the ankle locking system
  • More difficult to store with the heavy ankle system

While not our best inversion table, we are pleasantly surprised by the Ironman 4000 inversion table. This is a heavy duty table at an affordable price. The sample we reviewed had no problems and was set up in a little over one hour. The directions could be more clear. If we were not familiar with inversion tables, we would have struggled on some steps. The fit and finish does not match that of the more expensive Teeter models, but it seems very solid.

The table uses an older style vinyl covered foam bed. As you go inverted you will sink into the foam. Because of this you do not get the sliding affect of a full plastic bed and you may need to invert at a higher angle to get the full stretching benefit of inversion. The lumbar attachment for the bed is nice, but dependent on the user. We appreciate that it is included rather than an extra add-on.

Unlike the Teeter models, you cannot positively lock out at full inversion. Teeter accomplishes this by going slightly past full inversion so you are hanging with your body not touching the table. Since most inversion is done at a lesser angle, this may not be a concern. It would be a problem if you plan on doing exercises on the table (sit-ups, crunches, side-twists, etc).

At 75 pounds, this is the heaviest manual inversion table we have looked at. While this is not a consideration if you plan to leave it in one place, it is be more difficult to move.

Warranty is one year for the frame and 90 days for everything else. This is a fairly standard warranty for fitness equipment, but we feel that it should be longer for all parts. The first thing to wear out, we suspect, is the plastic covered foam bed. If you use your table every day, this could become a concern. We are not aware of any third party testing or certifications for the Ironman tables.

Support materials are lacking with this model. Ours included a brief assembly manual with no real advice on inversion and no DVD.

While not our best inversion table, the Ironman 4000 is a good alternative to the more expensive Teeter Hang Ups Models.

Pros

  • Good value at this price
  • 350 Lb. capacity
  • Ankle restraint lever
  • Lumbar attachment included

Cons

  • No third party certifications
  • Foam Bed
  • Weight
  • Poor Packaging
  • Short Warranty
  • Support materials lacking
  • Cannot lock-out at full inversion

The Teeter Contour L5 is close to the best inversion table this year, but between price and availability it does not take our top spot. We wrote an article explaining that the Contour L5 is usually reserved for brick and mortar stores. Manufacturers such as Teeter need to keep their physical store retailers happy, and exclusive products are offered to them. As a result, the L5 is significantly more expensive than the comparable EP-960 and harder to find. Occasionally a few units will work themselves into online channels.

The Contour L5 has a very stylish design with the curved legs. This does not affect performance, but it does set it apart from other Teeter inversion tables. Colors are nice as well with the black bed and silver-grey steel frame.

The table includes the easy reach handle for your ankles. As we mentioned with the EP-960 above, this enables you to fasten yourself into the table without reaching down to your ankles.

The one completely unique feature of the L5 is the one click balance feature. With this feature, you rotate a dial to adjust the balance and therefore speed of rotation as you go back and come up. With other tables, you have to reset the balance point by partially disassembling the pivot points. This is a setting that a single user will set once and never touch again. However, when there are multiple users who prefer different rotational speeds while inverting, this is an excellent feature.

Pros

  • UL listed and FDA approved
  • Comfortable ankle restraints with easy locking lever
  • Easy rotation speed adjustment dial
  • Comfortable flex back
  • 5 year warranty
  • 30 day money back
  • High quality
  • Support materials included

Cons

  • Price
  • Availability
  • Additional weight for the ankle locking system

The Teeter EP-560 Sport is a great but misunderstood inversion table. We know many people who consider this the best inversion table available. It comes with everything an EP-560 has plus it adds a Gravity Boot conversion kit. This enables you to use the table with the included Gravity Boots. These boots are hard plastic shells with a couple of inches of foam on the inside and hooks to hang from. Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page to watch a video we did on the Gravity Boot Conversion kit.

Gravity Boots are more comfortable than any inversion table clamping system (the EP-560 and EP960 are close). They also feel more secure. You can use these on a chin up type bar, so you can take these to the gym to use as part of your workout (please be sure the bar is rated for your weight!). The downside to using them with an inversion table is that you have to put them on. Although less than a couple minutes, this can seem time consuming and may lead to you inverting less often. With a standard inversion table, you would simply get in the table, activate the clamping mechanism and invert. The Sport model does come with the standard foot clamps, but changing the table back and forth for use with Gravity Boots is not something you are going to want to do on a regular basis.

If you do not mind putting the Gravity Boots on before you use your table, then we recommend the EP-560 Sport. The incremental cost may be worth it to you. However, if you feel that you want a table you can simply walk up to and use, then one of the models above would be the best inversion table for you.

Pros

  • UL listed and FDA approved
  • Comfortable Gravity Boots
  • Comfortable flex back
  • 5 year warranty
  • 30 day money back
  • High quality
  • Support materials included

Cons

  • Gravity Boots must be used unless the standard clamps (included) are installed
  • Additional cost of included Gravity Boot Conversion Kit

Combination Table: Ironman IFT 1000 Infrared

Ironman IFT 1000 Infrared Therapy Inversion Table
  • Inversion therapy table with advanced FIR heat technology
  • Ultra-thin carbon fiber heating elements in backrest help soothe muscles
  • May help reducing back pain and fatigue while helping to increase blood circulation
  • Inverts to 180 degrees; supports 275 pounds; folds for easy storage
  • Extra-long safety handles; mesh pocket for remote control

The Ironman IFT 1000 offers a lot for the price. Infrared technology has been used for some time to alleviate pain, and we have experience with it from other products we have reviewed. This table combines inversion therapy with infrared light to target back pain. While we agree that both technologies are effective, to manufacture a table at this price point with both, sacrifices are made.

As mentioned for one of the products above, we are not big fans of foam covered inversion tables. This prevents the sliding necessary for effective partial inversion. Also, the foam/vinyl back is a wear item. The table has only a 90 warranty on parts (1 year on the frame). An electrical component on a wear surface could easily have issues shortly after the 90 days.

Like other Ironman tables, you cannot positively lockout at full inversion. This can become a problem if you plan to do exercises on the table like sit-ups, crunches, or side-twists.

The ankle restraint system is similar to older tables from Teeter and others. Unlike Teeter or the Ironman 4000, this table utilizes a foam padded bar on the front rather than the preferred cushioned cups. The ankle mechanism is lacking the tall handle of the 4000 model. If you have back pain to the point that you cannot reach your ankles, you should consider a different table.

Pros

  • ETL/CETL Certified (electrical for the bed)
  • Infrared Heated Bed
  • Extra Long Hand Rails

Cons

  • No third party certifications for table
  • Foam Bed
  • Foot Comfort
  • Cannot lock-out at full inversion
  • Lack of Support Materials
  • 10-15 Minute Warm Up for lumbar
  • Difficult Assembly
  • Poor Packaging

We are not impressed with the Innova ITM4800, and it is far from the best inversion table. For the money, there are better options.

The main marketing point of this table is the infrared/vibration pad that runs across the width of the table. We can understand the thought here, but feel that the execution is poor. While your experience may be different, many find the pad to be uncomfortable and cannot use it on the table. The advertising says you can use it while sitting in a chair, but we found that the vibration did not penetrate deeply and there are better infrared products on the market.

The table has a handle between the foot clamps, but it does not operate like those on a higher quality table. The user still has to reach down to the top clamp itself in order to faster into the table, which defeats the purpose. That said, the foot clamps are fairly comfortable.

The manufacturer attempted innovation with the angle adjustment. A pin is inserted into different angle points near the pivot of the frame. We prefer a simple tether strap rather than this arrangement.

Pros

  • Removable infrared/vibration pad

Cons

  • No third party certifications
  • Foam Bed
  • Infrared pad is not comfortable
  • Difficult to assemble
  • Lack of support materials
  • Poor warranty

The Innova ITX 9600 is popular, but far from the best inversion table. It is a discount table at an attractive price. Obvious sacrifices were made to achieve the low cost.

The foot clamps consist of a bar that holds against the top of your feet and your ankles are supported by foam padded cups. The is an outdated design, and can be uncomfortable.

Aside from a basic assembly guide, this table does not include additional support materials such as information about inversion. Assembly seemed very time consuming. Not much of the table comes pre-assembled, so there are many small parts. It comes with a wrench tool, but we transitioned to a socket wrench because of all the fasteners we had to install.

The manufacturer offers a one year warranty that does not specify parts vs. frame. We assume that the warranty covers all parts for the entire year. This is better than others, but not to the level of the higher end tables, such as those from Teeter.

Pros

    • Low Price
    • One year warranty

Cons

  • No third party certifications
  • Foam Bed
  • Assembly time
  • Fit and Finish
  • Foot comfort
  • Lack of support materials

This is the inversion table that Darwin forgot. Ironman tables have evolved well beyond this model, but it is still offered. The design is similar to the cheap inversion tables from 10+ years ago. We cannot recommend this outdated inversion table.

Pros

    • Cupped ankle clamps
    • Inexpensive

Cons

  • No third party certifications
  • Build quality
  • Outdated design

Summary

When selecting the best inversion table for you, keep in mind that this is a long term investment. I recall speaking with the president of an inversion table manufacturer at a trade show who pointed out that the difference between inversion tables and exercise equipment is that people actually use inversion tables. Many people find the affect of inversion so positive that they continue to use a table for years. Contrast this against a typical exercise equipment purchase that may see use for a few months and then sit idle, and you can understand why quality is critical for inversion products. This comes through in our inversion table reviews above and elsewhere on this site.
