AeroPilates Featured on The Doctors TV (Video)

February 20, 2014 By Steven Kirchhof

Dr. Sears from The Doctors TV show demonstrates a Stamina AeroPilates Reformers. Its great to see such a great workout discussed on this show. We have known for years that Pilates is extremely effective in improving core strength and flexibility as well as overall fitness. Comments during the segment such as “working out should not feel like work” and about the low impact effective workout are spot-on. Enjoy the clip below.

Pilates was originally designed by Joseph Pilates in the 1930s and 1940s as a body conditioning training method to build endurance in the legs, arms, hips, abs, and back. Two books were published my Mr. Pilates in 1934 and 1945 that formed the basis of what we know as “Pilates” today. Later, in the 1980s, the principles of Pilates were defined by Gail Eisen and Philip Friedman in the book The Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning. These principles were defined as Concentration, Control, Center, Flow, Precision, and Breathing. These six principles have become widely adopted by the Pilates community.

Equipment such as Stamina AeroPilates reformers were designed with the core principles of Pilates in mind. What makes AeroPilates reformer unique (and highly effective & fun) is the integration of a rebounder. Not only does the addition of a rebound make the workout more effective by adding a cardio component, it also makes it much more engaging. This specific style of reformer has been embraced by both Pilates professionals and enthusiasts.

Thumper VMTX Massager Review

February 10, 2014 By Steven Kirchhof

Just released, the Thumper VMTX is an all new percussive massager that is unlike anything on the market. Using a single sphere, this massager provides a deep therapeutic massage. The unit may be used in either one person or two person massage. Watch the video for the complete review.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT

Hello everybody. Here is the new Thumper VMTX Massager. This is really something completely new from Thumper Massager that we find extremely interesting. We’ve tried it ourselves, and actually, we find it to be extremely effective. It was developed by Thumper, the leaders in massage therapy. They’ve developed this model along with some leading chiropractors in their area; right where they design and manufacture, outside of Toronto, Canada.

This is a single node massager, cycles between 20 and 40 cycles per second, it has an adjustment knob to make that adjustment of cycles per second on the top. And what’s interesting, is that you slip your hand in and you can tighten it down a little bit with these Velcro straps but for gravity alone, and it fits right in your palm. You can guide it on yourself or on a patient simply by moving your hand very, very intuitive. You can put a little bit more pressure with your fingertips, but the intent, really, and hopefully you can pick this up on the video in this review, is that you can use it as kind of a cantilever effect, where you put the base down onto the patient, lightly, and then you push on that front node, really to get into specific muscle groups where there’s a problem, where there’s tightness, or where there’s soreness; this can really push right in there.

And I have, for comparison, a Thumper Sport here. This is a great unit as well; very similar to the Mini Pro 2, and the Thumper Sport, when you hold it relies on the weight of the head. This weight of the head is going to be on top of the muscle group. You’re not going to put any pressure on it whatsoever, and just let the weight of the head do the work. Of course, there’s two massage nodes instead of the one on the VMTX. In comparison though, the VMTX only weighs 4 lbs., but when we’ve tried it, it does have sufficient weight, we can get into the patient or into yourself, and if you want, you can apply a little bit more pressure to get it in there.

It comes with three different massage heads. It comes with a hard, dome-shaped head, which I have attached to the unit now. Also comes with another dome-shaped unit, which is a softer, rubber-typed material. And also comes with a pointed hard plastic head to really get into those pressure points; really get into those muscle groups. Also comes with a carry bag.

The VMTX is available now at Amazon. Have a look at this really groundbreaking massager. And of course, everybody, have a great day.

Teeter Hang Ups EP-960 vs. Contour L5 Inversion Table Comparison

November 6, 2013 By Steven Kirchhof

Teeter Hang Ups EP-960 Inversion Table
Teeter Hang Ups EP-960

We have been fielding questions about the differences between the Teeter EP-960 and Contour L5 Inversion tables lately, and thought we would publish a quick comparison between the two. To see a comparison of over 10 of the most popular tables, check out our best inversion table review and comparison article.

Background

The Contour L5 is sold through retailers whose sales are primarily local (brick & mortar), while the EP-960 is sold through online and offline retailers. It is not uncommon for B&M retailers to have access to exclusives. This helps them compete against online merchants who frequently have better pricing due to their low overhead. And with heavier items, such as an inversion table that weighs around 70 pounds, many consumers would prefer to have it delivered to their door rather than have to pick it up (especially for those with back pain). Keep in mind while reading that Better Health Innovations carries the EP-960, but not the Contour L5.

Feature Comparison

The two inversion tables share the same bed design, foot clamping, and tether, which are critical parts of an inversion table. So, back and foot comfort will be identical on either table. In addition, operation of both tables is identical.

The L5 has a unique mechanism where the rotational speed (basically an adjustment for the center of gravity) of the table can be set with a dial. On the EP-960, this must be set by removing the bed from the frame. While this may seem important, the rotational speed setting is typically only set twice during the life of the table. Having dealt with thousands of inversion table customers, and having used inversion tables ourselves, we have found that this is set once when the table is set up and maybe one more time once the user gets used to inversion (by speeding up the rotational adjustment).

The L5 sports a different frame design with a more curved look. We will leave it up to you on the attractiveness of the table vs. the EP-960. We have not had experience folding the L5, and we are not sure if the leg design would effect storage. The EP-960 folds up very well. Both tables accept the accessories that came out for the 60 series earlier this year.

Warranty is the same for both tables – 5 years on everything. I am absolutely sure that the L5 has comparable quality to the EP-960 and other Teeter inversion tables. Teeter doesn’t mess around with quality, and I have never seen a poorly design table from them. Both tables carry the UL Mark and have passed UL certification testing.

Looking at the manual for the L5, assembly appears to be pretty much the same with the same components being pre-assembled (such as the frame and mainshaft)

Strangely, I cannot find any statements for money back if the table does not work for you. With the EP series, Teeter offers a 30 day money back, allowing you to use the table for that period and return it used for a full refund.

Conclusion

So, which is the best inversion table? Whether the rotation adjustment improvement and the leg design warrants a price tag $100 to $179 higher than the EP-960 is debatable. Currently (subject to change with time), the EP-960 price is $399, which includes a 110% price guarantee. Advertisements for the L5 indicate a $499 to $579 price tag. If money were no object, you may consider it, but even so, with the L5 it appears there is not a trial period and the BHI Inversion Coaching Program is not available. From that perspective, you are actually getting less value for more money. Based on this, I very much recommend the EP-960.

Airfree Air Purifiers – Review and Demonstration

October 16, 2013 By Steven Kirchhof

I have had an Airfree Air Purifier in my office for years now that has run trouble free. These are extremely misunderstood in how they function, and hopefully the video help clear things up. Basically, the Airfree unit brings air into a chamber that destroys viruses and bacteria with heat. This same heat is used to draw the air into the unit, so there is no fan, no filters, no UV bulb. Air is cooled before it leaves the unit so it will not raise the temperature of the room it is in.

Here’s a video from the manufacturer that has recently put out that is worth watching.
