Hey, everybody. As you know, air quality is a big concern of a lot of people. Probably for you, if you’re watching this video. Lately, we’ve had a lot of customers come in looking for a high quality air purification unit. They may suffer from allergies, or they might just want to live a healthier life and breathe cleaner air. There’s an awful lot of obviously pollen, awful lot of various kinds of particulate matter floating around in the air. All the way down to very, very small and fine particles, and there was recently a study that talked about how dangerous these very fine particles are.
What I want to talk about, both for people who have allergies and those who just want to get rid of odors in their home or office or for those who just want to live a lot healthier life. I wanted to walk through the IQAir HealthPro Plus. IQAir, made in Switzerland. Certainly, one of the top units on the market today, maybe the top for a portable type unit that you can just place into your home. The HealthPro Plus features four stages of filtration. Unlike a lot of their competitors, they bring in the air from the bottom of the unit. You think about all those particles floating around in the air. They’re all going to ground eventually.
A lot of them are obviously going down towards the floor and towards the lowest surface that they can go. The IQAir unit is actually sucking those in. Sucking in, what I would say, a more denser air mixture of particles. That air is brought up through the unit, goes through four stages of filtration, and then it’s exhausted. The clean air comes out through the top of the unit, all the way around. Almost 360 degrees blowing out that clean air into your environment. The filtration stages, there’s a pre-filter that gets out big particles like pollen, pet dander, hair, that sort of thing.
The second level of filtration in the HealthPro Plus unit is activated carbon. Carbon has been used for lots and lots of years. This unit here has five pounds of carbon. That takes out a lot of the odors out of the air. Carbon has been a really traditional means of cleaning your air. When you have a big cell of carbon going through, not just a mesh coated with carbon, it really eliminates all those odors in your air or most the odors [inaudible 0:02:43]. There is a chem absorption layer of filtration. That takes out chemical smells. It can take out formaldehyde. It can take out other chemical type of things.
Then, what IQAir terms as a hyper HEPA filter. I’m sure you’ve heard the word HEPA. There are different levels of HEPA, but generally HEPA filtration is units that can get out particles that are .3 microns or larger. IQAir really takes that to the next level. They’re taking out particles that are .003 microns or larger. With that kind of HEPA, you’re getting the fine particles out that are floating around in the air that can really cause some serious health problems. I wanted to do a little demonstration here. A lot of folk are worried about how loud these are. With the new addition IQAir, it’s an extremely quiet unit. There are six different fan speeds. I’m not going to go through all six of these, but I will go through three. I’ll go through the lowest, the mid-range, and then the highest.
It is a little bit difficult to capture sound like this on video. That’s why I’m not wearing a mike like I usually do. Instead, I have a microphone set up in front of us. Hopefully, we’ll capture this pretty well. Let’s go for the lowest setting. I don’t know if you could really hear that. I really didn’t hear much. The lowest setting, obviously, isn’t moving as many cubic feet of air as the higher settings. Let’s try the mid-range setting. You will be able to hear this, if you didn’t hear the first one. Lastly, of course, I’ll put on the highest level. After I do that, then I’ll tell you how you actually use these levels on a normal basis.
On that highest level, you could hear it. You probably wouldn’t want that running all the time, unless you want some white noise or something in the background when you’re trying to sleep. It is loud. It’s not really disturbing loud. It’s not like there’s bells going off. It’s just kind of a white noise in the background sort of thing. Typically, you won’t need to run the unit at that high of a level. What I usually do, and actually what we did here in this video studio overnight, is you run it at the highest level for 12 hours, 24 hours. You get out most of the particulates in the room, and then just run it on a maintenance setting. Just run it on either the lowest or second to lowest just to keep the clean air … or to keep the air in the room clean.
You’ve already gotten rid of the bulk of the stuff in there. Certainly, it varies from environment to environment to environment. As you could hear as I ran the lowest and even the middle setting, it’s really not disruptive if you’re watching TV or reading a book or sleeping. It’s certainly not a disruptive. It’s certainly not a loud sound. I really appreciate the quietness of this unit, but I also appreciate that there’s an option where you can crank this thing up and really change over the air in a room very quickly. There’s also a comprehensive set of controls on the HealthPro Plus. With this unit, you are able to set up a timer to go off certain days of the week, certain times to run the air.
You can run it on higher levels when you’re not home, for example, so you’re not listening to it. It also has the filter life, which is based on hours of operation. There’s a lot of causes of pain in your joints or in your muscle tissues or what have you. I just want to do a really quick overview and talk a little bit about magnetic therapy. There’s really two types of magnetic technologies that are used to address pain. The first one I call magnetic jewelry, and you see it’s relatively inexpensive, although there are some very expensive magnetic bracelets and that sort of thing. Typically, it’s a steel magnetic bracelet that will fit around your wrist with two magnets on it and that’s to address the old carpal tunnel or sore wrists, even in the hand areas, what it’s claimed to do.
Then, there’s magnetic therapy. I want to talk more about magnet therapy. The feeling really is, is that with the magnetic jewelry, it really does not have enough power to penetrate into the areas of your body where you really need help with pain. Also, those are fairly limited in that they really only fit your wrist. Let’s talk a little bit about magnetic therapy, specifically Therion magnetic therapy. This is a made in the United States product. Really the gold standard of magnetic therapy in the fabric that they use, in the magnets that they use, etc. I have a few of these, a few examples that I pulled out to show you today.
With their platinum line, for example, this is a platinum knee brace. With the platinum line of Therion magnetics, they are using 13,800 Gauss neodymium magnets. That’s opposed to magnets you’d find in a craft store or something like that with a very weak field. These actually penetrate, have an effective penetration of eight inches. Now, you will see other products out there that talk about penetration. A lot of times they’re talking about the maximum or how far away the magnetic field can actually be felt. This is eight inches of effective going through the bone and muscle in your body.
Great example here, is opposed to using a magnetic jewelry, is a magnetic wrist brace; great for carpal tunnel, great for wrist pain. If you’re typing for too long on the computer, it’s fantastic for that. I threw this on this morning just to demonstrate how it’s on here.
I’ll wear one of these, if I’m working at the computer for too long. I’ll get some pain in one of my wrists. This is one of their larger products, the knee brace. This, I think the size is a large. Fourteen high powered, high quality magnetics strategically located and very high strength Velcro that will wrap around and serve as brace as well as providing magnetic therapy. Rather than just having a brace on your knee, you’re also getting the benefits of magnetic therapy.
I have friends and family members with knee pain. Fortunately, it’s not an affliction in myself, but a lot of them have gone for cortisone shots. That seems to work fine for a year or two, and then the cortisone shots just don’t seem to have any affect. Many of those folks that I know have just transferred over to a Therion type product. Austin Air Healthmate Plus Detailed Filter Review
We had put up a video earlier about the Austin Air Healthmate, and received some questions on the filter itself. In this video I remove the filter from the unit and describe it’s construction and how it can help solve your air quality issues.

Hey, everybody. A short time back, we did a quick overview or review of the Austin Healthmate Plus Jr. Unit. Of course, it’s very similar to the full size Healthmate unit. This one here handles about 700 square feet. The full size Healthmate handles about 1500 square feet. We’re using this, because it fits on the table better. We did get a lot of question about what’s the filter like inside of that thing, so we thought that certainly we should do another video to show what the filter actually looks like inside of the unit. Let’s go down this. I’m going to try to gracefully get the filter out on video.
Basically, you just turn the unit over, and I have already done this. There’s four screws on the back. I already took them out. The bottom panel pops off and out comes the filter. There you go. What we’re trying to say in the last video is this air purifier is truly an air purifier. Much different than the type of units that you’ll get at a discount store or at a general that, yes it might be significantly less expensive than this unit, but if you just have a media in there which is basically like a paper or cloth where the manufacturer just sprayed it with carbon. Then, they put up there that it’s carbon filter, not really a carbon filter like this.
The Healthmate and Healthmate Plus, which is this unit, it has four levels of filtration. First, it has this media in here which is, I would say, little bit less than a quarter inch thick. That’s the media. As the air goes in there, that’s really just to take out the big things; air, big pet dander, that sort of thing. Then, within this filter it has … the next stage of filtration will get out the bigger chunks like pollen and that sort of large chunks, but not as big as dog hair that will already be out. The third level of filtration is six and a half pounds of activated charcoal. That’s quite a bit of activated charcoal, and it’s the Austin Air specialized blend of charcoal.
Following that, there’s a pleated HEPA filtration filter inside of there, so you’re getting true HEPA. This, of course as I said, is a Jr. unit, so you get six and a half pounds of activated charcoal. With the fill size Austin Air unit, you get 15 pounds of activated charcoal. That’s it. That’s the filter for the Austin Air Healthmate Plus. If you have any questions, certainly let us know. Remember at Better Health Innovations, you can try this thing out. Try one of these units out for a full 90 days. If you don’t like it, you can just send it back.
