Dance Your Way to a Slimmer, Stronger, Fitter You!

November 9, 2012 By Angela

It is generally recommended that adults get thirty minutes of exercise five days a week in order to stay healthy. With our busy schedules many adults simply don’t make the time to take care of their bodies this way. Because exercise seems boring or monotonous most adults just can’t bring themselves to add it into an already full day.

Dance is not boring. There are so many different genres of music associated with it that no workout is ever the same. You can get these workouts in many places, from classes at local universities or clubs to video rentals or even video games. The availability of resources in every community is astounding. Using your computer you can find a class near you.

This activity combines core strength building along with intense and fun cardio. This is exactly the type of workout that leads to a long, strong and lean body. Instead of building bulk, dance builds stamina and slims all over the body. In only a few minutes a day it can provide amazing physical results as well as health benefits. Posture, balance and flexibility will all improve with a consistent workout of this type. Many people who participate in these workouts see their heart health improve significantly.

Types of Dance Workouts

There is a workout for everyone. Salsa lessons can be great way to break the ice with a new date or an old group of friends. Usually these are group lessons for free or a small fee. Classical ballet lessons for adults are offered at most universities and community colleges as well as by some studios. These are generally more expensive but are excellent for building strength, stamina and grace. Many football players take ballet to hone this skill set. Ballroom lessons are a good workout and can be quite romantic. Reality television has sparked a new interest in ballroom. As a result, ballroom lessons have become very popular and easy to find. You need only to search for classes on facebook to find your nearest studio.

If you aren’t interested in working out in a class setting, videos that have been purchased or rented may be a better option. You can even use modern technology to stream workout videos in your house. In the privacy of your home you can learn everything from modern to ballet to jazz and hip hop. These high energy videos deliver quick lessons without leaving your living room. Better yet, it’s easy to invite a friend, neighbor or family member to workout alongside you.

A more unorthodox approach to a workout is the video game. Every major console has several titles available that let you rock out by yourself or compete against others in a heart pounding competition. You’ll work out without even realizing it as you find yourself playing for hours. Another benefit is that these games feature recent pop music hits and moves from the latest music videos and concerts.
