Keeping Kids Active During the Summer

July 29, 2011 By Timothy

For kids, the arrival of summer has always meant the beginning of several weeks of lounging on the couch, watching TV, going to the movies and eating junk food. While all that sounds like the perfect vacation to your kids, letting them idle about all summer will not only make it difficult for them to get back into their school routine, but it will also make them unhealthier. If you’re looking for ideas, here are some great ways to keep your kids active, fit and entertained during the summer.

Sign them up for a summer sport

If you’re worried that your kids won’t get enough exercise, a summer sports camp is the perfect way to get them on their feet. Sports like soccer and baseball often have summer camps where kids will make friends and stay active. A sports camp will improve a kid’s social skills and athletic ability. That’s a double plus!

Take them camping

Nothing is more refreshing and engaging than heading into the great outdoors. Regular camping trips will teach kids to be more independent and better attuned to the sights of nature. On camping trips, you can take your kids on a nature walk to identify birds, an intense hike to a natural landmark like a waterfall or a leisurely swim in the nearby lake. Any of these things will get your kids moving around and involved in educational fun.

Assign chores

While this one might seem less fun than the previous suggestions, getting children involved in household chores will teach them about responsibility while keeping them busy. Even though some parents prefer not to pay their kids for household chores, giving them an incentive to do the work will make things go smoothly. Depending on how old they are, the tougher tasks should have clear expectations and rewards.

Make a schedule of fun family activities

Sometimes keeping kids active is as simple as making a schedule for a “fun activity” each day. This could involve something like a bike ride, pickup basketball match, game of tag or walk around the block. Kids find it much more rewarding and much easier to engage in activities with their family instead of doing things alone. Family activities will also help keep your family bonding during a time when relatives might get on each others nerves.

Get them toys!

It might seem counter intuitive to buy your kids toys if you want them to stay sociable and active, but toys are great devices for getting kids exercising without even realizing. For example, toys like footballs, Frisbees, hula hoops, water slides and jump ropes encourage liveliness. Also, a video game like the Nintendo Wii functions by getting people to mimic sports movements and is particularly fun for kids of all ages. Giving them options other than watching television is the first step to making your kids healthier and more active.

Benefits of Circuit Training Like a Boxer

July 28, 2011 By Angela

Circuit training is increasingly gaining popularity as a technique of resistance training, which maximizes the amount of work done within a short time period. It serves as a great tool for people who want to lose weight, gain muscle mass, or improve their overall strength. Additionally, it is a brilliant way of improving cardiovascular health, mobility, and stamina. Circuit training eliminates the validity of the biggest excuse that people use for not exercising, that is, lack of time. Circuit training requires minimal time, is full of action, and doesn’t need to be carried out daily.

Circuit training involves execution of multiple exercises concentrating on different parts of the body one after the other, without taking any rest in between. Given below are examples of some exercises that can be incorporated in your circuit training routine to work the entire body.

Upper Body Exercises: Bench dips, push-ups, bench press, and medicine ball tosses.

Lower Body Exercises: Step ups, squat jumps, box jumps, and bodyweight squats.

Trunk and Core: Back extensions, stomach crunches, and leg lifts.

Total Body Exercises: Skipping, squat thrusts, jump rope, and running for conditioning.

Bag Exercises: Punching bag workout is suitable for all people, and can be performed with relatively little gear. It is also a great way of mixing up different exercises and making the workout more practical as well as a lot of fun! Here are a few benefits of adding boxing training to your circuit:

• It helps work out heart and lungs: Using punching bag serves as a good cardiovascular workout. Performing just a few rounds is enough to work out the body and exhausts you completely. Not only this, it is also an important part of circuit training and helps in bringing the body in top-notch physical condition.

• Increase core strength: Punching with speed and power helps in developing core strength, which is beneficial for various other day to day activities.

• Self-Defense: Meticulously working a heavy punching bag with the right technique will help you learn the technique of defending yourself better, in case you ever face the need to defend yourself.

An ideal circuit training session should involve working each muscle group for 30 seconds, followed by 30 second recovery. Five sets of each exercise with 3 minutes recovery time should be enough for everyone.

Identify a few exercises which can be performed with whatever resources you have available with you. I would recommend investing in whatever equipment you need to maximize your workout. Remember, purchasing equipment is a one-time cost that offers returns for as long as you use it. Try to ensure that no two exercises work the same muscle group in any given circuit. The circuit should be planned in such a way that all major muscle groups of your body are worked optimally. Circuit training is ideal for building strength and endurance for either sports or general fitness, and it can be customized for people of all ages and abilities. Find out what regimen best suits your needs, and see for yourself!

Eating Slow to Lose Weight? Simple but Powerful Idea

July 20, 2011 By Angela

According to the most recent research, about 20% of people are facing problems because they are overweight. To get rid of this problem, people try many different methods and advice. Losing weight in fact is a popular topic nowadays.

Simple Yet Effective

People are going to gym, using belts, making healthy diet plans and so forth. These things can be complicated. Yet, people are missing an easy trick to lose a few pounds around their waistline. What is it? It’s nothing but eating slowly. To know how this technique worked it is needed to know about human digestive system.

Human Digestion–The Brain

Human digestive system is created in way that stomach sends a signal to the brain whenever it needs food. When one starts to eat foods these go to the stomach through esophagus. At that time stomach starts to send signal to one’s brain. When the stomach gets its required food it sends a signal to one’s brain via nerves.

Human Digestion–The Stomach

It takes some time for the brain to signal the stomach that it is full. If you keep eating beyond the time when you are full, you will eat more than is required and you will gain weight.

Eating Slowly Works

If that person eats slowly, the stomach will get enough time to send the signal and the person will get the message that there is no need to eat more. This simple information gets overlooked by most people. Now the next question is- how does one eat slowly? Following tips will be helpful.

Tips for Eating Slowly

The best way to eat food is chewing. It gives your stomach enough time to send the signal to brain. Most importantly chewing makes the food easier to be digested. You can also drink water after making four or five bites. That will not only help to eat slowly but also help to keep you hydrated and to be able to digest properly.

Socialize When Eating

Another trick to get you to eat slower is to socialize with the people around you. Do not just concentrate on eating, concentrate on conversation. People who are conversing tend to eat slower. This means that they can listen to their body and understand when it is full. Of course, your relationships will no doubt get better if you start doing this!

Try It; You Might Like It

All of this might seem simple, but what have you got to lose by trying? Nothing but a lot of weight!

If you allow me, I can teach you how to search people online, without paying much money for those ‘paid search’ services.
