Since a full year without measles cases in America in 2000, the number of cases so far this year is the highest number yet at 288. The measles is no longer native to America, but cases rise as people bring the disease from abroad countries. The Philippines is the source of half the cases so far this year, where an outbreak of a reported 32,000 cases has occurred.
The CDC recommends that everyone get their measles vaccination like they would the flu shot to stop the spread of the disease. The vaccination should also be added to the list of travel vaccines to keep more outbreaks from occurring at such a fast rate.
