Intravenous Nutrient Therapy: The Answer to Better Health?

November 1, 2012 By Angela

I would admit that although I am not scared of insects, heights or any type of thing or event that would make women shudder, I hate looking at needles. Whether it’s getting the shots back in grade school or getting hospitalized and having an IV stuck into my hand, my head starts filling with unpleasant memories whenever I see an injection or an IV. But no matter how unpleasant they look, these things have probably saved thousands or even millions of lives everyday.

IV Drip - Intravenous Drug

Nowadays, nutritionists are recommending the intravenous nutrient therapy as a means of implementing nutrients inside human bodies. During sickness, our bodies usually has its own method of dealing with germs and other foreign invaders that causes sickness. When these germs have been killed by our anti-bodies, then the natural healing process will start, thus making you feel better after a certain illness. However, there are some factors that make the healing process slower, such as stress, nutritional deficiencies and certain medical conditions. A doctor will advise you or your parents to take supplements that will help in improving your body’s overall health. This is fine and dandy, but experts claim that the old method of using liquids and tablets is simply not enough, since most of the nutrients are wasted when they are flushed out from our system as waste materials.

This is mainly the reason why intravenous nutrient therapy might actually work, especially to some people whose immune system does not function the same way as a normal human does. Some of the best examples are AIDS patients who need a constant supply of nutrients to keep their bodily functions normal. The same goes for patients who are not yet able to eat solid foods. Asides from the usual IV process, they also get the intravenous nutrient therapy in order to replace all those nutrients lost during the whole medication period.

Some of the many medical conditions where IVNT is considered most successful are:

1. Cancer

2. Fibromyalgia

3. Migraine and Headaches

4. Auto-immune conditions such as Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis

5. Hepatitis

6. Asthma

However, some nutrition experts are skeptical with the idea of using IV for nutrient therapy. There are people who have been using the said process but are yet to experience improvement. Is it a problem with the nutrient given? Or perhaps they were using the WRONG kind of supplements or nutrients for the said person? One has to consider some of the factors that may affect nutrient absorption, like gastrointestinal health, normal liver function, healthy cell membranes and other factors that affect your body’s nutrient absorption as a whole. For example. a person going through an IV nutrient therapy will never get the benefits he/she wants if his/her liver is not functioning normally. All the nutrients he/she have been taking is all wasted and flushed out from the body.

There are a lot of things that are yet to be still discovered when it comes to the intravenous nutrient therapy, so in any case, those who wish to undergo the said process needs to talk to their doctor first before anything else.
