The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Wednesday that there have been four dealths and 26 sickened with a non-contagious fungai form of meningitis in five states. Most cases have been reported in Tennessee, including 18 cases and 2 deaths. Cases have also been reported in Virginia, Florida, Maryland, and North Carolina. The FDA is working with state health agencies to identify the source of the outbreak. A leading suspect is an injectible steroid, methylprednisolone acetate manufacturered by New England Compounding Center who conducted a voluntary recall of the product.
