December 27, 2012 By Angela

A variety of immune-mediated diseases that creates patches on the skin of an individual is known as Psoriasis. This is a condition that can happen when the immune system thinks that the skin cells are pathogens. Faulty signals are also sent which can cause overproduction of new skin cells during this situation. Apart from causing an effect on the skin, psoriasis is also a type of disease that plays a great role in increasing the risk of a stroke. However, there may be improvements in the condition of stroke if the patient is partly treated with high blood lipid levels.

Types of Psoriasis:

Before thinking about the treatment for Psoriasis, it is important to have a look at the types of Psoriasis. Since the treatment of all types of psoriasis are not similar, it is important to look at the types at first and then think about the treatment. Basically, until now, medical science has discovered five types of Psoriasis: guttate, erythrodermic, plaque, inverse and pustular. The most common variety of this disease is known as plaque Psoriasis. People with this disease get scaly patches of white and red color on various parts of their body.

Treatments of Psoriasis:

Some people think that Psoriasis is not at all curable. Research has made several developments in the field of the treatment procedures for this disease. Today, Psoriasis treatment has become really popular amongst people. Two types of treatment procedures, namely as systemic treatments and topical treatments are the most popular today. In most of the cases, this disease is curable.

Topical treatments:

With this treatment procedure, some medicines are rubbed on the skin of the patient to bring about relief. This is done without the involvement of chemicals. Thus, side-effects are absolutely nil in this situation. Topical Psoriasis treatment includes:

Creams based steroids – Generally, in the treatment of this type of disease, steroid cream is really useful. This helps in decreasing the inflammation on the skin. During this type of skin disease, itching creates uneasiness. The steroid based cream is really effective in blocking the cells that produce Psoriasis. If you can use stronger preparations, it can easily make you feel relieved in a less amount of time.

Salicylic acid – As you show your family doctor an appearance of Psoriasis on your skin, he may recommend an ointment that includes salicylic acid. This will also help you in the shedding of psoriatic scales. While you are using this treatment method, it is important to note that applying this cream in larger areas can cause side-effects. The side-effects will include weakening of hair shafts. Hair loss will become a severe problem for you in such a situation.

Calipotriene – Vitamin D is very essential for the skin of an individual. If a good amount of Vitamin D is supplied to the skin, the disease will lose its strength. It is also essential to use small amount of Calipotriene to avoid side-effects.

Light therapy for psoriasis treatment:

People should note that an individual suffering from psoriasis will not be affected with sun burn with the regular dose of sunlight. Psoriasis treatment with light therapy is provided to all those who are suffering from this critical disease. The effective treatment founded by doctors for all the patients suffering from Psoriasis is with ultraviolet light. There are many doctors who prescribe the treatment of UVB light in treating such patients.

Other types of Psoriasis treatment involve the use of coal tar shampoos and ointments.

If you are suffering from this disease, then rush to the nearest hospital and take good treatment before it threatens your good health and quality of life.
