Stem Cell Therapy Trial For Autism Treatment

With 1 in 88 children diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum, researchers are attempting to find new ways to understand the cause of autism and to treat the disorder.  In a preliminary trial, 30 children with autism will participate by using the child’s own umbilical cord blood, which was banked at birth, as a source of stem cells to be used in treatment.  This study, recently approved by the FDA, is the first of its kind.
