We are seriously excited about the new SteriPEN Sidewinder that was shown at the European Outdoor Show a couple weeks ago, and will be shown this week at the Outdoor Retailer Show.
We have talked before about how SteriPEN water purifiers protect hikers, campers, and travelers from waterborne viruses and bacteria. They all work in a very similar fashion: The user puts the bulb end of the SteriPEN into a bottle of water they wish to purify. The bulb activates, killing all the bad stuff, and the water is safe to drink in just a few moments. To power a SteriPEN, you use either AA or CR123A batteries… until now.
The SteriPEN Sidewinder has a hand crank that powers the unit, so there is no more worrying about having charged batteries while traveling or hiking. It comes with a Tritan BPA-free one liter bottle that mounts upside down on the Sidewinder, so to use it the steps are very simple:
- Fill the included bottle with water
- Mount the SteriPEN Sidewinder on the bottle
- Flip the unit over
- Unfold the handle
- Crank the handle until the green LED light comes on.
- Drink safe water
The unit is small (8.6 in x 5.5 in x 3.8 in) and weighs only 16 ounces, making the SteriPEN Sidewinder very easy to pack and take anywhere. The Sidewinder is, of course, built with the same high quality we have come to expect from SteriPEN.
We are also excited that we will be among the first to offer the SteriPEN Sidewinder. We have the unit up on our Survival Camping World and Better Health Innovations sites and it is available for pre-order. We expect to be shipping mid-September.
