There are many foods that have the vitamins and minerals essential for preventing macular degeneration. Many of these foods aren’t thought to be delicious, as most of them are vegetables, but there are ways to prepare them to make them delicious.

Foods rich in Vitamin A have been shown to fight macular degeneration. Vitamin A helps to keep the eyes and retinas moist, which can keep problems at bay.

Foods containing Vitamin A include:

  • Eggs
  • Squash
  • Spinach
  • Carrots
  • Liver
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Cantaloupe

Along with Vitamin A, zinc is also good for maintaining eye health. Studies have shown that zinc may help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

Antioxidants are key in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and they play a role in eye health as well. Many foods we currently eat are high in antioxidants, like spinach, salmon, and delicious walnuts. Berries are also full of antioxidants, especially blueberries and blackberries. If you don’t want to eat your antioxidants, drinking them is also an option. Green, black, and oolong teas are packed full of antioxidants.
