5 Words That Can Change Your Life for the Better

October 12, 2012 By Angela

When pondering making changes in ourselves, many things may come to mind. Some of us seek more earning power or a more extensive collection of material items, while others may wish to improve upon their self-aesthetics. Most, though, would like to build on their character, thus becoming stronger and more admirable. The following is a list of the most coveted characteristics you can aim for:

1. Honesty. Integrity can take you further in life because it allows people to trust you, and without trust, there are no relationships. Being truthful and forthcoming demonstrates a humanness and vulnerability but at the same time a larger than life strength. Be honest with others as well as with yourself and be more capable of creative positive change and achieving what you want

2. Courage. You need to be courageous to develop yourself personally, otherwise the fear of it all will keep you stagnant. Courage is what gives us the ability to face and overcome the things that hold us back and stand in the way. Be courageous in how you face life, and you will be able to get more of what you want.

3. Humor. The ability to laugh at oneself and make others laugh is one of the single most valuable traits a person can have and one that will serve you well in life. When things aren't going well and you feel overwhelmed, or if someone around you is facing that, having a sense of humor will carry a person right through the tough times and enable them to keep trying. Have humor within your personality and there is nothing you cannot accomplish. Having a sense of humor can also help you to relieve the stress in your life.

4. Kindness. No matter how much you have to climb and claw your way to the top, being kind will give you staying power! When we offer kindness to others we connect with them, and it is only through these connections that personal development can succeed. Otherwise, even with the greatest successes in life, you risk solitude and being ostracized, and there is little enjoyment to be had from that. Kindness from others is also a means of finding success with your goals, as the generosity of people who know how to get where you want to be will get you there much faster. Kindness is monetary in a sense; it grows in value and has a measurable worth. Have kindness as a characteristic and success becomes instantly more attainable.

5. Confidence. Having self-confidence will power you to accomplishment in the face of any adversity. Without belief in yourself, your dreams of a better life and becoming a better person have no ability to materialize. Confidence is also a contagious thing: you can empower others to improve themselves as well! With a strong sense of knowing who you are and that you can do anything, your possibilities are endless.

4 Apps for the Outdoorsmen in Your Family

August 24, 2012 By MegJones

The best things in life are free; watching the sun rise and set, counting stars and exploring constellations from their deck, hiking and finding adventures in out-of-the-way locations both near and far. Simple things are a joy. However, if you have someone in your family who loves the simple pleasures, you know how hard it can be to buy them something they’ll actually use. Outdoors men, while flexible in many areas, can be very particular about things like their equipment. They want to explore the outdoors on their terms, and that means bringing along with them only the objects that they see fit. [Read more…]

July 5, 2012 By Richard

One of the most common problems when it comes to losing weight is that many people strongly dislike exercise for a wide variety of reasons. For others still even a small degree of exercise seems like more hassle than they’re willing to consider. And so on.

So let’s take a closer look at the concept of exercise and some ways in which you can develop the motivation to exercise and thus speed up your weight loss plan. [Read more…]

The 10 Quickest Ways to Get Healthy

May 6, 2011 By Steven Kirchhof

This is a guest post from our friend, Jane who periodically contributes to our blog. Enjoy!

  1. Swim – this is the best form of exercise as the body weight is supported by the water and therefore the stress on the joints and limbs is reduced greatly. People who are not very active actually find swimming a pleasing experience due to this weightlessness. If you are not lucky enough to have a swimming pool in your garden, then there are lots of health clubs around and available for a small monthly subscription, or failing that, the local authority pools are usually within area for a very small charge.
  2. Eat well – as has been said many times before, food put into the body is the same as petrol put into a car. If it is the wrong type of petrol, the car will not function. This is the same for body. Put in the wrong food, and your body will not function as well. The general rule is to maintain a balance, not to each too much of the same item and to color your plate. This means that you use vibrant colored foods, say potatoes which are white, carrots which are orange and spring greens which are green. Then there is the meat or the vegetarian alternative, followed by some fruit of different colors, say strawberries, bananas and kiwi fruit. Using this style, on a smaller scale for breakfast and lunch will create automatically a balanced diet. Try eating only whole foods, for example, vegetables, instead of processed, ready-made meals.
  3. Walk – walking is one of the best forms of exercise. A brisk walk after dinner will burn off the calories and provide you with a feel-good factor.
  4. Take up a sport – for example football or hockey. This sport will generally entail one match once a week, and one practice session once a week. This will create a regular training environment for a person trying to get fit. If you are not well enough to play a game, then participate in a club as a spectator and cheerleader – it will provide you with a healthy interest in the game, together with the organization and energy involved in getting to the venue, participating as a spectator and returning home will invigorate you.
  5. Address worries – if you have bills lying around that haven’t been paid, pay them. If you have something worrying you, discuss it with the most appropriate person. Whatever is worrying you, face it head on and sort it out!
  6. Write a list of all the things you would do if you won the lottery – now scale them down. For example, if one item was to buy an airplane, then instead, book a flight somewhere interesting. Or if it was to throw a magnificent expensive party, then throw the party, but keep it within budget. You can apply all your wonderful lottery ideas to current day life, it is just a matter of scale.
  7. Eat organic food – there is no proof that organic food is any better for a person, but in today’s world it is probably better to eat less pesticides and artificial elements than more. Organic fruit and vegetables and other organic produce go some way to helping people sustain a less chemical intake lifestyle.
  8. Drink water – it is a misconception that a person needs to drink 2 litres of water per day. Scientists in the 1950’s advised this, but this was also based on the water content within food. For example cheese is purported to be 70% water. Scientists in the 1950’s added up all the amounts of water needed, from actual water to water from food and came to the conclusion that the total needed per day was 2 litres.
  9. Keep away from hazardous dust. Some of the dust spores in old houses can create short-term breathing difficulties, for example if a builder is working on site, it is better if they wear a breathing mask to protect themselves, and the same applies if the homeowner visits the property to assess the stage and quality of the works.
  10. Have fun – it has been proved that laughing is a wonderful tonic and people have been known to hire funny films and literally ‘laugh themselves better!’
